Margarita Arteaga

Legal Assistant

Bio: Margarita (Maya) Arteaga is a legal assistant. She began an entry-level position with a large litigation firm, where she dealt with clients, appointments and calendar dates. After six years, she joined a firm that was engaged primarily in workers’ compensation cases and personal injury claims. She spent nine years there as a legal assistant. She joined our firm as a legal assistant and also acts as our client coordinator, scheduling appointments and depositions. She is bilingual in English and Spanish. She is married with three children. When she is not working, she is hauling her “troops” around to school and games. She has great organizational skills, which are necessary in a litigation firm due to the extensive number of meetings, depositions, court hearings and deadlines. She effectively coordinates and organizes the entire office schedule. You will find that she is most helpful and always courteous.

Angela Mortensen

Paralegal

Bio: Angela Mortensen is a paralegal. Angela brings a great deal of civil litigation experience to our firm. She is a native of nearby Galesburg. After graduating from Galesburg High School, she entered Augustana College, where she achieved an outstanding scholastic record. She majored in Political Science and Philosophy. She was named to the Aristeia Freshman Honor Society and the Augustana Dean’s List, and received an Augustana Honor Scholarship and a Centel Scholarship. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree cum laude. She was an exceptional student. After graduating from college, she wanted a challenge, so she went to Chicago to work. She spent the next six years working for two large litigation law firms, which dealt primarily with insurance litigation, products liability and medical malpractice. She had a successful experience with them. However, she missed the non-metropolitan community, so she came to Rockford, where she spent an additional five years as a legal assistant and paralegal in a firm that also handled insurance litigation. She is well-adept in civil litigation.

She joined us in late 2006, and we feel very fortunate. She brings another dimension to the firm. She is primarily involved in the preparation of cases for jury trials and as a trial assistant. Angela is well-traveled, having often visited relatives in Sweden.
